I am always looking for something to mitigate wrinkles. Unfortunately, retinol (the most effective wrinkle treatment) and I don’t get along. Awhile back I read about celebrities like David Gandy incorporating rose hip seed oil into their beauty routines to combat aging. A few days later I was shopping online and I saw this Nude Skincare trial kit at Sephora. I bought it, along with some other things.
Nude Skincare is a natural skincare brand that includes Mrs. Bono as one of the backers. The brand has a few treatment oils, including the Progenius Rescue Oil. In addition to cold pressed rose hip seed oil, rosemary oil and coleus root extract the treatment includes bakuchiol, a “natural” retinol that helps to improve texture and guard against skin stressors. It is also vegan.
It came with ProGenius Omega Treatment Milk, which you are supposed to put on before the oil. I didn’t really like the smell of the texture of the treatment oil so I don’t use it. The oil “stays in place better if you layer it with a moisturizer, but you can apply it to cleansed skin.
I use it at night, after I put on my rosacea treatment and sometimes in the morning as a daytime moisturizer. It helps calm by burning, red skin and my skin is super moisturized when I wake up in the morning. My skin also seems firmer, radiant and has a more even skin tone. Suffice to say – I love this stuff! Now the cons – if you don’t wear it with moisturizer, it tends to take longer to absorb, getting on your glasses, etc.. It is also expensive ($68 an oz.) and Sephora recently announced it will be discontinuing it.
While supplies last, you can head over to Sephora and stock up or just try out the brand at 30 percent off. The trial kit I bought (several of them actually) is called the ‘Double Dose of Genius’ and is reduced to $15.40 for .33 oz each of Rescue Oil and Treatment Milk. The oil has lasted me since February and I spilled a bunch. At 2-3 drops per application, this sample could last you 6 months. I will use up my supply and if Nude Skincare is gone by then I’ll look for a replacement.
Sephora entered the beauty sample box arena last year and started out slow. The “Players” had to sign up and wait for an email that invited them to the program. Sephora now seems to have distribution and shipping established and as of today, you can simply visit the website and subscribe. The “Play” by Sephora sample box is $10 per month (plus tax, including shipping) and you can cancel anytime. You must be a Beauty Insider member to subscribe.
The April Play box included a Sephora gel blush, A sample of MILK Sunshine Oil, a CLINIQUE Pep Start Eye Cream sample, A Derek Lam 10 Crosby 2 A.M. eau de parfum spray, a Sunday Riley GOOD GENES sample and a NARS Satin Lip Pencil – it’s actually the same one we got last year for the birthday gift. It ships on the 20th of each month and comes to your mailbox. I like the fact that the products are all new or at least relevant. You end up getting products that aren’t lame like you tend to get in some of the other sample boxes. My favorites from this one are the gel blush and the Sunday Riley GOOD GENES. I actually saw a difference in my skin shortly after I applied it! It is made with lactic acid that helps remove dead skin much more gently than glycolic acid. If you want to the Sephora box, I would sign up ASAP because you never know when they will close it.
Sephora is once again offering its Flash Subscription for one year of free 2-day shipping for $10. There is no minimum and it applies to every purchase for one year. If you are a VIB Rouge member you will get it free, as long as you maintain your VIB Rouge status. This offer can go away as quick as it appears , so hurry if you want it. To get it, go to sephora.com and sign into your beauty insider account. Go to this page, add it to your basket, accept the terms and conditions and check out as usual. The only caveat is that you won’t be able to 2-day items that can’t go via air. Those items will ship free by ground.
All Beauty Insiders are eligible for a free gift during their birthday month at Sephora and the beauty store has just unveiled it’s new birthday gift for 2015. Last year the gift was a mascara and mini lipstick from Make Up For Ever and the year before that it was a mini duo of Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments. The gift for 2015 is two NARS lip pencils plus a NARS eyeliner for VIB Rouge (members who spend over $1,000).
So, how do you get your gift? Sign up to become a Beauty Insider and visit the store during your birthday month to pick up your gift (no purchase is necessary). You’ll also earn points on your purchases that you can redeem for super-sized samples and get special offers in your email.
Spring is almost here so its time to march yourself over to the store for some Spring beauty! This year the trend is the understated, natural look with bold lips. I have already picked up some new products…here are some ideas for you.
Put away the heavy foundations and swap them out for BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. I tried a sample of Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream 8-in-1 Skin Perfector and was pretty impressed. It gives high end BB Creams a run for their money. It has an SPF 30, but it was a little dry, I would wear a moisturizer under it.
Keep it basic, use a tinted eye primer like Laura Mercier Eye Basics or Urban Decay’s Naked Basics. Heavy eyeliner and mascara are a no-no too. Use a brown eyeliner and use a clear mascara or primer on your eyelashes. Bold brows are in, so lay off the tweezing and fill them out a bit with a brow powder or gel.
Lips is where you get to be bold this Spring. Pick rich corals, pinks and reds – mattes are good, too much glitter bad. I find that many drugstore varieties of lipstick are just as good as department store brands. The only exception is if I want a particular color. I really like the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters and NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils – you can use it as a liner and then fill in the rest of the lip. Make sure you use a lip protectant with SPF underneath your lip color.
To keep continuity for the natural look, choose a light pink or coral blush an d apply it to apples of the cheeks. Skip the BRONZER! You want a light, dewy complexion. I discovered this great pink ethereal blush by NARS called Gaiety. Just looking at it makes you feel good!
Hair this spring is inspired by a day at the beach. At New York Fashion Week, L’Oréal Professionnel Master Session Artist, Laura Polko created lots of loose buns and beachy waves. You can recreate beachy hair at home by first prepping hair with L’Oréal Professionnel Mousse Volupte. With a curling iron, alternate curling twisted strands of hair to create a touchable wave.
