June 2015 Allure Beauty Box – review

This month’s Beauty Box curated by the beauty editors at Allure has everything you need to get read for the beach/pool. For $15 you get six products, plus a 50% off coupon for your first custom home hair color from eSalon.

St. Tropez Self Tan Express – custom your tan by washing it off earlier or later, depending how deep you want your tan to be.

eSalon Perfect Ending Leave In Conditioner – a leave-in to use post color.

E.L.F. Studio Stipple Brush – This stout brush is to be used for stippling – a process that makes your face look airbrushed. I can be used with cremes, liquids and powders. Buying an E.L.F. brush is always a good way to test a new brush type.

Lauren B. Beauty Nail Couture in Polo Lounge Punch – nice color, missing all the bad stuff and its vegan too!

Completely Bare Wax Strips for Face, Bikini and Body – I have seen these in the store and wanted to try them. Completely Bare
are made by former Housewife of New York City, Cindy Barshop. The wax is strip is on fabric instead of plastic like most drugstore  wax kits. I love these, they are easy to use, can be reused and are effective.

Cotz Face Sunscreen SPF 40 in Natural Skin Tone – this SPF goes on very light and tints the skin just a bit. Perfect for running errands without makeup.

This is the last month Beauty Bar is managing the beauty boxes. Beginning in July the boxes will be shipped by Allure. Boxes are priced at $15, including shipping.

Allure Sample Society is the best beauty box for the money

Beauty subscription boxes have really taken off in the past couple of years.  Some are great and others leave a lot to be desired. I have tried a few in the past couple of years and they were all just kind of so-so. This holiday I was surfing and found a special offer for July boxes from Allure Sample Society. This box had products from some of my favorite brands, so I ordered two, one for me and another as a gift.

This box had two full size products, two hefty samples and a fragrance sample.  The full size products were a butter London nail polish and a L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire by Colour Riche lip gloss.

Bobby Dazzler, $15 by butter London
Bobby Dazzler, $15 by butter London

Bobby Dazzler is a great neutral medal that can be worn everyday or out on the town. A little hint about butter London, the square black top pops off revealing an easy to use applicator, The retail price of this polish is $15 (the cost of the entire beauty box).

L'Oréal Paris Extraordinaire by Colour Riche lip gloss in Rose Melody.

Next up is the L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire by Colour Riche lip gloss in Rose Melody. I have seen this in the drugstore but just never tried it before. The color shown on the bottle is much lighter on your lips. This color on me was like a pink tinted nude. It goes on great and is very moisturizing . It retails for about $9.99, but you can also find coupons for it.

Laura Mercier Highlighter, $38 for the full size.
Laura Mercier Highlighter, $38 for the full size.

The first of the super samples is a highlighting powder by Laura Mercier called Matte Radiance Baked Powder. Whenever you see a celebrity with that perfect from within glow, it is probably this powder. Apply around the eyes, cheekbones and face with a good brush to create a luminous glow. This is about 1/3 of the regular sized product.

Frederic Fekkai Hair Mask

The editors at Allure swear by this PRX Reparatives Intensive Fortifying  Masque by Frederic Fekkai. After you shampoo, apply it to your hair for 5 to 10 minutes and let it work wonders. It smells really good and retails for $25.

Finally we have the fragrance sample from Maison Francis Kurkdjian, the gold standard in perfume. The french perfumer has a variety of women’s, men’s and home fragrance that will knock your socks off.  Seriously, every scent he makes is amazing, he even has a couple of fragrances available in bubble form.  The scent I got was Aqua Universalis, a fresh scent that could be worn by both women and men. You can find Maison Francis Kurkdjian at luxury retailers like Neiman Marcus.

The overall value of this box was around $50 and well worth it. You can buy Allure Sample Society Beauty Bar boxes one at time for $15 each (shipping included) or subscribe. Use code 5FORYOU to get $5 off your first box.
